... Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11 ... Faithful Lord, guide us through the struggles and trials of our lives. Help us to be renewed in the midst of them, to be open to new possibilities beyond them. Keep us strong, give us courage, and keep us always close to you. Amen.

The importance of keeping God's covenant Empty

Psalm 25:10
"All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth,
To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies."

Genesis 17:7
And I will establish My covenant between Me and you
and your descendants after you in their generations, for
an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your
descendants after you."

Psalm 25:14
The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him,And
He will show them His covenant.

Psalm 50:5
“Gather My saints together to Me,Those who have made
a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”

Psalm 50:16
But to the wicked God says:“What right have you to declare
My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth,

Psalm 89:3
“I have made a covenant with My chosen,I have sworn
to My servant David:

Isaiah 55:3
Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul
shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with
you— The sure mercies of David.

Hebrews 9:15
And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant,
by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions
under the first covenant, that those who are called may
receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Hebrews 9:18
Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood,

Hebrews 12:24
to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

Hello gatekeeper,

I hope you are keeping well.

I wonder how many covenants were there? Three? More?

The Abrahamic Covenant

The Law Covenant

The New Covenant

They say that covenants can be unilateral or bilateral. I think some people say the Abrahamic Covenant is unilateral.

Did the covenants begin with a fleshly sign of faith, that of circumcision, develop into ritual law, and come to completion in the heart?

One other question: although Abraham’s people and their descendents took the sign of the covenant, was the covenant technically aimed at them all, or was it specifically between God and Abraham?

WCL, Brendan.

Hi Brendan,

Those are thought provoking questions.

The Apostle Paul spoke about the importance of having the
same kind of faith Abraham had in God's promises. Those
who have this kind of faith are promised an inheritance,
and that inheritance is as of a first born son. Yet others
will be saved, but will not inherit the kingdom.
According to Paul, eventually, all of Israel will be saved:

"For if you were cut out
of the olive tree which is wild by
nature, and were grafted contrary to
nature into a cultivated
olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural
branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant
of this
mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion,
that blindness in
part has happened to Israel until the
fullness of the Gentiles has come
in.
And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:

“ The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
For this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.”
Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake,
but concerning the election they are beloved for the
sake of the fathers."
Hebrews 8:8
Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold,
the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make
a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the
house of Judah—
Hebrews 8:11
For this is the covenant
that I will make with the house of Israel after those
days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind
and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God,
and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his
neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the
LORD,’
for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest
of them.
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness,
and their sins
and their lawless deeds I will remember
no more.”

2 Corinthians 3:6
God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new
covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the
letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."

There are many covenants, but this one will give life to
who ever seeks it.
