... Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11 ... Faithful Lord, guide us through the struggles and trials of our lives. Help us to be renewed in the midst of them, to be open to new possibilities beyond them. Keep us strong, give us courage, and keep us always close to you. Amen.

The Gospel of LUKE Empty
PostSubject: The Gospel of LUKE   The Gospel of LUKE EmptyTue Jun 03, 2008 5:58 am

How often did we hear this scripture from the
platform?

(Matthew 7:20-21)
Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall
enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does
the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not
prophesy by thy name, and by your name cast out
demons, and by your name do many mighty works? Many
will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy
by your name, and by your name cast out demons (etc.)
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you:
depart from me, you that work iniquity."

It is evident, all these works didn't please God.

But then, what would please God?

I read further and found the key;
Listen to what Christ says in verse 23:

Every one therefore that hears these words of mine,
and does them
, shall be likened unto a wise man, who
built his house upon the rock:"

Now when comparing Matthew's eye witness acount of
the words of Christ with the eye witness account of
Luke'sHe too, get's right to the point.

Luke 6:45-50

"why call you me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"
Every one that comes to me, and hears my words,
and does them
, I will show you to whom he is like: he
is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep,
and laid a foundation upon the rock: and when a flood
arose, the stream broke against that house, and could
not shake it:because it had been well built.

But he that hears, and does not, is like a man that
built a house upon the earth without a foundation;
against which the stream broke, and straightway it
fell in; and the ruin of that house was great."

compare:
Ezekiel 2:8
But you, son of man, hear what I say to you; be not
you rebellious like that rebellious house: open your mouth,
and eat that which I give you."

~
A wise and discreet man is found listening and doing
God's will. This person is able to separate junk food from
food which is nourishing for the soul; the spiritual food
only God provides.

But one must Come to Christ, the teacher should teach the student the same gospel message the Apostles had
received in the begining.

Love God and love your neighbor. Could it be really that simple?

I think it is alot simpler than what many teach.

The ones who claim to know him in the first verses, say we know your name, and used it in powerful ways, look we did all these works, but Jesus said they didnt really know him.

The others, may not have even known his name, but they did his works, which was to love, and to treat his sheep in love. They may not have done anything to display 'power', but it is these that Jesus loved, because they loved who he loved.

Is that not what is doing good? To love what God loves, and to Hate what God hates.

This is my very favourite Bible verse:

O man, He has declared to you what is good. And what does Jehovah require of you, but to do justice, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8, LITV)

I feel sure that this seemingly very general command was given within the context of the Old Covenant. Because of that, I think there were other obligations peculiar to that Covenant that could not be ignored.

Now we live under a New Covenant and we are still asked to ‘love God and love our neighbour as ourselves’ as afresh expression of Micah 6:8. Does the New Covenant carry its own obligations that oblige us to obey these simple commands within the context of the New Covenant?
