... Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11 ... Faithful Lord, guide us through the struggles and trials of our lives. Help us to be renewed in the midst of them, to be open to new possibilities beyond them. Keep us strong, give us courage, and keep us always close to you. Amen.

Hi all,
We were at this concert last night.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
Classic FM and the Phil
A Decade of Great Music Making

Friday 1 October 2010 7:30 pm
Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Shostakovich Festive Overture
The Ash Grove and All things Bright and Beautiful (trad.)
Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Medley
Ungar The Ashokan Farewell
Grieg Piano Concerto
Holst Jupiter from The Planets
Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending
Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture

Vasily Petrenko conductor
Craig Ogden guitar
Gabriela Montero piano
Jack Liebeck violin
Isabel Suckling Choir Girl of Year

Sitting in the choir stalls just behind the orchestral drums, it was quite an event when they played the last piece...the 1812.

A very enjoyable experience, especially seeing all the actions of the conductor looking over the orchestra's shoulders.
regards
Derek

Thats awesome Derek; I LOVE classical music.

Im familiar with 1812, and I own "the Planets" by Holz. Great stuff.

These days, my ipod has the following artists: MOZART, and RUSH. (thats pretty much it too...) .

The movie 'Amadeus' is one of my favorites, and My mom just bought me what is considered the single best recorded version of 'Don Giovanni' there is (3cd set, origionally recorded in 1955, in Germany). I never thought I would actually like opera, but this one is unbelievable. I also got a few "study guides" to it, to understand whats going on. Very Happy Mozarts 'Requeim" is the best piece of music Ive ever heard, bar-none.

From the movie 'Amadeus':

I love these scenes!!!
